Most of all, you’ll need to start with your dress. For example, is your gown heavily beaded or bedazzled? Then opt for something extremely simple like one small hair pin that has the same type of ornamental decoration as your dress. Or, sometimes nothing at all but an elegant drop earring does the trick.

Is the majority of your gown sans beading or other detail and a plain fabric with nothing but perhaps an elegant belt? Then most definitely do more and choose something like an encrusted comb, barrette or vine. Just always remember to keep in mind any decorative elements like pearls, crystals or rhinestones when choosing

Obviously your choice for a hair accessory should complement not overwhelm your style. If you’re wearing a low updo, try a comb or barrette that sits right at the top or at the side of the style. Also, decorative hair pins can be slid into place individually or clustered  at the sides or throughout the style - pearls and small crystals look stunning. You can also do this with any side updo or a glam ponytail as well. 

For the ever popular down do with glam waves, try pulling one side back and securing it with a decorative hair comb. For half up styles, try a flower crown that sits atop or a hair vine woven through or placed like a headband.  

If you are wearing a veil – even just for your ceremony and a few photos– you can absolutely wear a hair accessory.  And, at your hair and makeup trial run, definitely discuss this with your stylist.

A comb or hair pins can easily be placed into your style - the veil will simply be placed over top and when you take it off, your hairstyle won’t be naked and your piece will be there in the style for the rest of the day and evening.  Or, if you are opting for a flower crown or headband, get someone you trust to place this after the veil is taken off. Just ask the stylist for a few bobby pins to secure it later.

This really has to do with the overall hue of your gown, details and the jewelry you have chosen.  Stark, diamond and eggshell white gowns typically go with silver-toned jewelry and accessories.   Warmer ivory, creams and blush hues match better  with gold or rose gold.  Although it may be okay in today’s less strict fashion world, mixing the two is a no-no when it comes to bridal attire.

Sometimes, it’s a good idea to think about the overall setting and time of day your wedding is taking place.

If you are having a midday barn or beach wedding where the majority of the day will be held outdoors, consider putting flowers in your hair. One simple white rose or gardenia will look fresh and quite elegant. Even match one of your chosen bouquet flowers with one for your hair. Floral crowns never go out of style and with the right boho-chic wedding dress, will look ultra feminine and pretty.
